Smt. Sushma Swaraj Says BJP backs Advani's anti-corruption yatra

Two senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have claimed that there is no division in the party over LK Advani's proposed yatra against corruption. Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, Leaders of opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha respectively, said that Advani is undertaking the yatra with the full support of the party.




 

"At the BJP Parliamentary Board meet yesterday, party President (Nitin Gadkari) asked officials to formulate a plan on Advani's yatra. The entire party backs it," said Sushma Swaraj.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj along with some senior BJP leaders (Ananth Kumar, Balbir Punj and Chandan Mitra) today left for Singapore to attend a seminar on peace and regional cooperation between India and its East Asian neighbours. On her Twitter handle, Swaraj said she is leaving for a trip to Singapore from September 13-16. "Going for ISAS lecture on 'Building bridges for Peace and Regional Cooperation- India and its East Asian neighbours'," Swaraj said. The Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) is organising the event.Senior BJP leaders and MPs Ananth Kumar, Balbir Punj and Chandan Mitra are part of the delegation led by Swaraj.

About Swaraj Kaushal (Husband of Smt. Sushma Swaraj)

Swaraj Kaushal is a former governor of Mizoram. Born in 1952 in Solan he studied law at Punjab University. He married Sushma Swaraj in 1975 and they have a daughter. He was designated as Senior Advocate by Supreme Court of India in 1986. He was associated with Socialist Party. He played prominent role in negotiations for Mizoram Peace Accord which ended 20 years of insurgency. He also represented Government of India in the Nagaland peace negotiations. He was made Advocate General of Mizoram in 1987 and later Governor of Mizoram in 1990. He was the youngest ever Governor of a State. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in August, 1998.
